Hurry up
A wild fall day
cold and windy
the carrots break loosely from the soil
and the leaves mix wildly with the done green
Clouds tangle in the sharpened branches
all is harsh and dry
Air is tinder-dry and smokes of the paper-fire
the sunlight is careless and flashes all over
undisciplined like the birds
gathering the last seeds
My eyes skim over everything;
it is not a day to linger.
Rather, gather
and come in
to the paper-fire.
